Thalassemia
is a genetic blood disorders that affects person's ability
to produce hemoglobin. Without hemoglobin life is not possible
as it is a carrier for oxygen and other nutrients.
There are two types of Thalassemia.
1) Thalassemia Minor
2) Thalassemia Major
Thalassemia
Minor
A person who is a Thalassemia minor lives a normal life with
no significant health problem except in few conditions like
pregnancy, severe infection.
Thalassemia Major
Very difficult disease to treat, life long medical care, and
survival is not possible without regular blood transfusion.
Average life expectancy in Pakistan for Thalassemia major
is 10yrs and most of them die at the age of 10 yrs. Majority
of these Thalassemia children belongs to low socio-economic
area, with no medical coverage so their life become more difficult.
In Pakistan the only hope for these innocent children is their
treatment by supported by different NGO, S.But still the fund
is inadequate to give complete support.
